ANIMAL HEALTH SUPPLEMENT ACT

Protect the Supplements Your Animals Depend On

Since 2001, the National Animal Supplement Council (NASC) has helped to improve the lives of millions of dogs, cats, and horses given animal health supplements by their loved ones. Our leadership and advocacy actions have helped to shape and secure the future of an industry so many animals rely on to live their healthiest, happiest lives.

Now, we are ready to face a long-standing challenge head-on and we need your help.

We are introducing the Animal Health Supplement Act proposing federal legislation to establish a permanent legal category for these products that for decades have been classified as unapproved drugs due to gaps in how U.S. law is currently written.

Passing the Animal Health Supplement Act solves this problem once and for all.

ABOUT THE ACT

One bad company or product creates risk for the entire industry.

Currently, animal health supplements are allowed to be marketed under “enforcement discretion,” meaning they are permitted as long as suppliers act responsibly. But that could change. Enforcement discretion isn't a permanent solution and these products could disappear from store shelves overnight if there is a change in government policy.

The Animal Health Supplement Act will provide legal status and a regulatory framework for these products so companies can continue supplying them and animals can continue relying on them. It will remove the threat of animal health supplements being pulled from the marketplace due to unclear laws or changes in discretionary policy.

We are asking everyone who may be impacted by these products, from manufacturers and suppliers to veterinarians, retailers, and pet owners, to join us in advancing our efforts.
